It’s the Small Things

Dear friends,

In a world where it feels like there are big problems, getting back to a simple truth that even the smallest things or deeds count can be humbling.

It means recognizing that even the quietest, most humble acts of kindness, integrity, or generosity have deep value- both spiritually and socially. It reflects the idea that you don’t need to do something dramatic to make a difference.

  1. Small things like speaking kindly, picking up litter, or giving someone your full attention create habits that reflect your values.
  2. Just like drops of water can carve stone over time, small deeds add up. They vibrate into the world in ways we don’t always see- comforting someone, inspiring goodness, or preventing harm.
  3. Small things hold heavy weight in the Jewish, Christian and Islamic teachings. The smallest mitzvah or good action is precious. Pirkei Avot says, ” Be as careful with a minor mitzvah as with a major one, for you do not know the reward of each”. ( Avot 2:1)
  4. Be intentional. Even a smile or holding the door for someone with awareness is a deliberate act of goodness.
  5. Resist the urge to dismiss or rush past small acts because they are not flashy. True goodness often goes unnoticed but they still have depth.
  6. Acknowledge your own or others’ small efforts with gratitude or reflection as it reinforces their worth.
  7. Even mundane actions like cooking, listening, cleaning, arranging flowers can become sacred if you dedicate them to healing, peace, or love.

With the overwhelming distractions we face in our daily lives,
you may ask yourself, ” Where might I renew my attention to ” small things” that are actually seeds of spiritual transformation?

With fierce love,
Gedalia
