Haritaki- The King of Herbs
Dear friends,
On the topic of “seasonal change” I want to bring up the benefits of the herb “haritaki”. It is one of the three fruits in the ” Triphala ” herb and is considered one of the best herbs for balancing Vata dosha.
Vata dosha is the energy that predominates in the environment during the Fall season.
Supporting the body’s innate cleansing process it gently removes accumulated natural toxins in the gastrointestinal tract. As a rejuvenating herb, it strengthens and nourishes the tissues and supports the proper function of the colon, lungs, liver, and spleen. Haritaki is used to regulate elimination. It is known as the ” king of herbs”.
I was introduced to taking “haritaki” when I traveled to India to study Ayurveda. My teacher suggested I take it and I recently began again during this change of season.
Here are some key benefits:
1. Haritaki can relieve constipation, gas, and bloating.
2. Haritaki can boost the immune system helping the body fight infections and disease.
3. Haritaki can help with weight management as it helps absorb nutrients and boosts metabolism.
4. Haritaki can reduce inflammation.
5. Haritaki can help manage blood sugar and aid in heart health.
6. It can support the health of the hair, skin and nails.
It is often consumed in powder form taking 1/4 to 1/2 tsp at night with warm water.
Do not take haritaki if you are:
dehydrated
fatigued
pregnant
lactating
individuals taking diabetic medications
recent blood donors
gastritis

I’ve purchased Ayurvedic products from the above source and they are very high quality and reputable, always willing to answer questions as well.
Always do your research before taking any herb. This blog does not promote any companies or personal interests in the recommendations.
As far as the photo goes it is a picture of cut-up apples ready to go into the crock pot. Eating cooked apples is also an effective way to enhance digestive health, detoxification and supports gut bacteria. Their fiber helps alleviate constipation, manage heart health, and reduce cholesterol. I like to add cinnamon, cardamom, and ghee to the cooking. If you don’t have a crockpot it can easily be done on the stove- just add a little water- cover and boil for about five minutes then uncover another five minutes. I like to eat it first thing in the morning after warm water with ghee.
