Ayurvedic Tips and Reminders

Purple OrchidNourish Yourself Through Your Senses

Dear friends,

According to Ayurveda, food is not the only source of nourishment. Our five senses; touch, sound, sight, taste, and smell are doorways to our inner physiology creating balanced health! By using the senses to enhance positive input of energy we move toward nourishing the soul and balancing the doshas. So instead of just thinking about what to eat next or what to cook for your next meal I invite you to become more conscious of using the five senses to create balance in your daily life.

Here are some tips to implement:

Touch Daily massage with oil. This is a time to connect with your body and increase energy flow. Touch a tree or hug someone.

Sound– Listen to the birds, geese flying, wind or rain. Listen to pleasant music. listen to ocean waves sounds! Jarring sounds , computer overload, and harsh music disrupt the nervous system.

Sight- Be in nature. Bring soothing colors into your environment. Work with paint ; go to a fabric store and look at the different textiles.

Taste– Bring some zest into your food with the six tastes- sweet, sour, salty, bitter, pungent and astringent- add some spices to your food and consciously eat something like it is your first time, savoring every bite and enjoying it.

Smell- You all know how much I love essential oils and love sharing them with you! Aromatherapy is linked with memories and emotion and treat insomnia, depression and other imbalances.

Marma therapy, Ayurveda’s energy balancing therapy, enlivens four out of the five senses.. interesting isn’t it.. it’s no wonder people make shifts and feel better.  Clients often tell me that they find it hard to explain to their friends what it is. If you simply relate  ” I’m sleeping better”, ” I have less and less pain in my body”, ” I have hope again”; ” I have more energy”, others will relate to your experience. Trusting in what you “feel” is the best description. Marma is unique for each person because when the senses are enlivened your natural inner pharmacy is awakened which enhances energy , self awareness and the shift takes place!!.. simple, subtle and powerful! Thanks to Ayurveda, thanks to nature. Thanks to you all for embracing this unique mind/body therapy.

Speaking of the senses.. color, beauty , nature and the healing arts are what rocks my soul.. ( outside of being a family)…What rocks yours?

You are warmly invited to celebrate my creative pursuit in the form of an art show… Bring your friends and family.
I hope to see you there!
