Ayurvedic Tips and Reminders

“Food for Focus” is our topic.

It is my pleasure to share with you simple ways to live a more easeful life!

According to Ayurveda balancing with the six tastes: Sweet, Sour, Salty, Bitter, Pungent, Astringent can be in the focus of our awareness as we prepare and eat our meals. I am going out of order  with “Salt”because the summer is here and we lose electrolytes with sweat.

Salt has got a bad rap over the years, particularly table salt , stripped of minerals, bleached and chemically treated.

Pink Salt, or himalayan salt is said to be the purest form of sea salt with the following benefits:

Promotes healthy PH balance  in cells ,particularly brain cells . PH is what alot of us are focusing on now.

* Reduces signs of ageing.

*Prevents muscle cramping- being rich in  minerals such as magnesium, potassium.

*Increases absorption of nutrients by helping the intestines.

*Improves circulation.

Helps with constipation!

Rich in iodine- good for the thyroid

* Miso soup, sea vegetables are another source of good salt.

With the summer here and lots of sweating going on remember to “Pass the salt please”( the pink kind) to your food and water. Simple! I know, adding salt to water sounds crazy but it works.

My friend, and one of my teachers,  Dr. Nelson Bulmash reminded me of this last week and it totally helped my energy levels! Thank you. Such an easy thing to forget.

Note: In Ayurveda, Salt balances Vata and can imbalance Pitta and particularly Kapha- so moderation for those and for Vata skip the popcorn and salty chips and have a nice cup os miso soup .  Some pumpkins seeds with pink salt meets the crunchy needs.You’ll feel the difference I assure you.
