Ayurvedic Tips and Reminders

With the cold , mostly dry air upon us and with the New Year as a new beginning it is good to revive your daily practice of Abhyanga- Self massage with oil.

Best done before your morning shower, warm up the oil for your dosha under hot water ( not in microwave). Banyan makes specific oils for this massage and we do carry them at Massage and Facials Brookhaven. However sesame oil may be used for all three doshas this time of year , the organic kind. “The body of one who uses oil massage regularly does not become affected much even if subjected to accidental injuries, or strenuous work. By using oil massage daily, a person is endowed with pleasant touch, trimmed body parts and becomes strong, charming and least affected by old age.”— Charaka Samhita Vol. 1, V: 88-89

  • Stimulates the internal organs of the body, including circulation
  • Pacifies Vata and Pitta and Harmonizes Kapha

What I had been looking for outside myself for so many years was already within. I just didn’t see it.
