Ayurvedic Tips and Reminders / Breakfast Time, Make the Time
Dear friends,
Morning time has been and still is an important time to start your day nutritionally on the right foot. Why?
From an Ayurvedic approach skipping breakfast can increase a sub- dosha of Pitta and create irritability and negative emotions. Not a great way to begin your day.
Ayurveda recommends eating fruit first thing in the morning as it builds ojas; immunity, strength and vitality then eating breakfast 30 minutes later. But if you’ve been skipping breakfast you can start with juice or fruit. Ayurveda has understood what’s now known as “metabolic syndrome” long before modern science caught up.
Some breakfast examples are:
- Cooked fruit such as apples and pears- my favorite cooked in a crockpot overnight with a little ghee and cardamom. I like to use a variety of apples such as macoun, green and macintosh- Can also combine apples and pears.
- Morning smoothie with whey protein powder( grass fed) and unsweetened almond milk. Today I added 1/4 avocado which makes it nice and creamy, celery, cilantro, and a handful of spinach. First thing had fresh pineapple then smoothie 30 minutes later. Pineapple contains bromelain an enzyme that has a long list of health benefits. From anti-inflammatory, to increasing digestive capacity, to enhancing heart health by improving circulation, pineapple is one food that has not been tainted as far as I know.
- You may choose foods according to your dosha and with the season. Kapha dosha may choose astringent fruit such as pomegranate and cranberries. Also a green drink of sprouts and bitter greens is a good choice for kapha people using water instead of almond milk. For Vata and Pitta sweet fruits are preferable as I mentioned above using coconut/almond milk or plain water.
Everything at room temp, not cold.
So many variations of the above according to the season. Be playful and go for color.

Feel light again and relieved of the strains of grief and loss at this class:
A Holistic Approach to Grief and Loss Using Sound and Color Wednesday May 25th 6:30-9:30pm
We’ve all experienced grief and loss in our lives; from loss of a pet, loved one, child going off to school, loss of body parts, divorce or even deeper traumas such as molestation and abuse; this has been part of the human experience.
In my experience of grief and loss I found it takes strength, perspective and awareness to cultivate a healthy attitude to move forward each day.Through the practices of meditation, yoga, sound, oils, a healthy diet, energy healing , compassion and creativity I was able to integrate and transform these experiences into renewable energy and true healing.
If I had stayed stuck in the grief I would not have painted, learned about the healing arts or even studied Ayurveda. All in the quest to heal myself. So I invite you, not to a depressing class, but a workshop that will help you integrate and recycle the grief and loss to a new and renewed level of being.
In this class you will discover how to use sound and color to heal your chakras and unblock energy toward vitality and strength.
Even if you ” think” you’ve dealt with grief and loss in the past , consider this; you’re symptoms today such as fatigue, headaches, depression , stress and anxiety can be a reflection of past hurt and trauma. I have found this true in my healing practice. read testimonials page
