Ayurvedic Tips and Reminders

sunset-poseAlthough we are all happy to be outside in the sunshine , the sun can also damage our skin . Here is a recipe for dry skin that can easily be done at home.

Mash half an avocado or half papaya.. add a few drops of lime juice and put on skin for 15-30 minutes a few times a week. Rinse with warm water. Your skin will become smooth and glow.

The good news about the sun is that according to modern research, Vitamin D ( which we get from the sun) has regulatory roles in immunity, cell proliferation, insulin secretion, blood pressure and calcium metabolism (which is vital for normal functioning of the nervous system, as well as for bone growth and maintenance of bone density). Wearing a good sunscreen, with aloe vera gel, wearing a  hat, and protective clothing are the basics we all know and need to practice when going outside in the hot sun.

Because summer is “pitta season”  ( fire element),eating foods that are heating such as spicy, tomatoes, hot chilis and alcohol will only aggravate the skin and ‘heat’ in the body. Use the gel from a fresh aloe leaf on your skin daily.
