How to Utilize the Breath for Inner Peace
In the midst of outer chaos and turbulent times ,it is easy for the mind to follow suit.
Did you know the mind and the breath are inextricably connected? The first thing we did when we came to this planet is take a breath. It will also be the last thing. Yet we hardly pay attention to the breath in between. Unless there’s a problem we say ” take a deep breath’. In the past few years the breath is gaining much attention in reducing stress and promoting healthy lifestyles.
So let’s begin together if you’d like to give it a try. I know for myself I am beginning to practice this connection at least a few times a day and have found that it helps me slip into meditation after a few minutes and relaxes my mind.
” Take a deep breath”. If you are sitting in a chair place your feet flat on the floor hip width apart. Your hands can rest one on top of the other, palms facing up or with the thumbs and forefingers touching. Keep your back straight and your shoulders back. You may close your eyes.
Bring your awareness to your nostrils and your chest so your full; attention is on the breath. Take three deep breaths this way if you are sitting. You can even deepen the breath by placing your hand on your belly or simply putting your attention there as you breathe deeply. If your mind is still active don’t try to force it to stop. Gently keep your awareness on your nostrils, heart area or belly. Notice the sensations in your body as you continue to breath. Now let your breath return to normal. Stay here as long as you wish soaking in the peaceful energy that is already within. Savor it. Acknowledge it. Thank it.
