Your Very Own Inner Resource- Drug Free

Dear friends,

Your closest resource is your “breath,” and it’s drug-free!
Yogic teachings and modern research promote breathing methods known as ” Pranayama” to have key benefits for harmonizing body and mind.

One such technique is “alternate nostril” breathing. This breath is best done on an empty stomach first thing in the morning or afternoon ( not at night). I enjoy practicing this breathing in the afternoon, around 3 pm, when my energy starts to wane, before I have a cup of tea. It lifts my mood, calms my nervous system, and helps me think more clearly for the rest of the evening. It is especially good for Vata types in Ayurveda. Most of my clients report information overload and stress so everyone can do this.

Some key benefits:

  1. Reduces stress and anxiety.
  2. Enhances mental clarity and focus.
3.Balances left and right hemispheres of the brain.
  3. Improves memory.
  4. Improves cardiovascular function.
  5. Increases lung capacity.
  6. Balances energy- In Ayurveda and yoga, it’s said to balance the flow of prana( vital energy), leading to clearer energy flow and vitality.
  7. Supports calming restless or scattered thoughts.
  8. Encourages emotional balance.

How to?
Sit comfortably.
Close the right nostril with your thumb, inhale through the left to the count of four.
Close the left nostril with your ring finger, and exhale through the right, to the count of four.
Inhale through the right, close it, and exhale through the left.

That’s one round.
Continue for 5-10 minutes.
I like to practice for five minutes in the morning and five minutes in the afternoon. It’s so easy and so rewarding.

Note- refrain if pregnant,or menstruating.

It’s really about taking a pause, becoming present by reconnecting with your breath- your best inner resource!

I hope you give it a try.

With fierce love,
Gedalia
