Three Tips to Prepare for Allergy Season

Dear friends,

We are very close to the allergy season. Ayurveda teaches that the Spring season is called “kapha”  representing ” earth” and “water”.  This combination increases mucus in the body. Just as in nature, the mountains are thawing from snow, so too our bodies are thawing out from the heavy foods of winter and melting it’s mucous so we can better cleanse and rejuvenate ourselves- hence “spring cleanses, cleaning.  If you don’t live near snowy mountains, the rain and dampness will increase “kapha’.So often people wait to start sneezing and itching before they think of using remedies to support them. By that time it might be too late.

Here are three recommendations to begin now in your daily self-care to prepare for the coming season:

1. Begin by eating “local” raw honey. “It boils down to this, says allergist Neeta Ogden, MD: You get a tiny amount of the thing you’re allergic to, which can make you less sensitive to it.”https://www.webmd.com/allergies/features/does-honey-help-prevent-allergies#1
It’s the same principal as homeopathy and allergy shots.
“The idea behind honey treating allergies is similar to that of a person getting allergy shots. But while allergy shots have been proven to be effective, honey hasn’t. When a person eats local honey, they are thought to be ingesting local pollen. Over time, a person may become less sensitive to this pollen. As a result, they may experience fewer seasonal allergy symptoms. “https://www.healthline.com/health/allergies/honey-remedy
Bottom line, it can’t hurt. Try a teaspoon a day with warm water. For kids, try honey sticks from Whole Foods.
2. If you are not already on a daily probiotic supplement, now might be the time to start implementing. Our immune/gut health plays a huge role in how we fight allergy symptoms.

Sources of Probiotics

“Probiotic drinks and probiotic food supplements are widely available in the United States today. However, there are also a number of foods that contain these good bacteria, especially fermented foods like sourdough which produce bacteria naturally and utilize it for growth.

Other good sources of probiotics include yogurts, fermented cabbage dishes like sauerkraut and kimchi, and soft cheeses.”https://vitagene.com/best-probiotics-for-allergies/

3. Essential oils can help relieve allergies. They can reduce the pain associated with your immune system response.  The second way is they can help reduce inflammation which is the cause of most of the severe allergic responses.  The third is they can help boost your immune system making your body less vulnerable to allergen triggers.  Finally, they can block the allergens from entering your home and your body.  So if you are looking for a great way to relieve your allergy symptoms, essential oils can help.
Diffuse peppermint, eucalyptus, lavender or lemon oil. Or choose three and combine. If you don’t have a https://www.mapi.com/products/aromatherapy/bamboo-aroma-diffuser.html diffuser here is one I recommen
