Something called “ojas” in Ayurveda is considered the by-product of food, according to Dr. Vasant Lad, the world-renowned Ayurvedic doctor, and author.
In other words, Ojas is a subtle essence of energy. It correlates with one’s immunity, energy, and vitality. Increasing ojas, increases energy, vitality, and a youthful appearance and glow, strong immunity, and a healthy libido. If you find yourself lacking in any of these categories, you may have depleted or imbalanced ojas in your system.
Here is a simple recipe to increase vitlaity/ “ojas” ( for the morning as breakfast):
10 raw almonds soaked overnight
2-3 dates soaked overnight; pitted- soaked in separate water
a small handful of raisins ( less than 10)
1/8-1/4 tsp cardamom
1/2 tsp honey ( preferably neem honey which is revered in Ayurveda as an anti-inflammatory, anti-coughing, and anti-septic) can be purchased at Whole Foods)
optional- 1/2 tsp ashwagandha or tablet
2 cups filtered water or one cup almond milk
When ready to make this drink peel the almonds by hand( the skins gently come off)- and DISCARD the water.
Place in blender with the rest of the ingredients INCLUDING the water the dates soaked in.
Blend and enjoy! And congratulations you’ve just made your own almond milk…. how easy is that?
(I imagine kids would love this drink as it is sweet and almost like a milkshake- might be nice when they come home from school)
Ps. if this drink makes you feel heavy, dull or lethargic it is not for you.
